சுகமளிக்கும் ஆராதனையில் பங்குபற்றிய இரு பெண்கள் மரணம்

கடந்த சனிக்கிழமை விஹாரமஹாதேவி திறந்தவெளியரங்கில் இடம்பெற்ற சுகப்படுத்தும் ஆராதனையின்போது மர்மமான முறையில் மரணிதத இரன்டுபெண்களினதும் உறவினர்கள் அளித்த முறைப்பாட்டின்மீது விசாரணை நடைபெறுவதாக பொலிஸ் தெரிவிக்கிறது.

இது தொடர்பாக Daily Mirror பத்திரிகை வெளியிட்ட செய்தியின் முக்கிய பகுதிகளின் மொழிபெயர்ப்பு அசல் செய்தியுடன் தரப்படுகிறது.

இப்பெண்கள் இருவரும் மயங்கி வீழ்ந்தபோது அவர்களின் உறவினர்கள் இவர்களை வைத்திய சாலைக்கு கொண்டு செல்ல முயற்சித்துள்ளனர்.

நிகழ்ச்சியின் ஏற்பாட்டாளர்கள் இதனைத்தடுத்து இருவரையும் பூங்காவில் ரகசிய இடம் ஒன்றிற்கு தூக்கிச்சென்றுள்ளனர்.

இதன்பின் பொலிஸ் தலையிட்டு இருவரையும் வைத்தியசாலைக்கு கொண்டுசென்றபோது இருவரும் மரணித்திருப்பது தெரியவந்துள்ளது.

மரணவிசாரணைக்கு உத்தரவிட்ட நீதிமன்றம் வழக்கை எதிர்வரும் 13ஆம் திகதி மீண்டும் விசாரணைக்கு எடுக்கும்.

Probe into deaths at healing service

 An investigation is being carried out, on a complaint made by relatives, into the sudden deaths under mysterious circumstances, of two women during a healing service held at the Vihara Maha Devi open air theatre last Saturday, police said.

 Filing a report before Additional Magistrate Kumari Abeyratne, Cinnamon Gardens Police informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court that two elderly women who were said to be ailing had died under unexplained circumstances while performing some religious ritual during which sick patients were supposedly healed.

 The Police further said many people had attended the meeting as publicity had been given by the organizers of the event titled ‘Suva Kereeme Deva Meheya’ (healing service) to be held on October 31.

 The two women who attended the healing service had allegedly gone into a trance and collapsed.

 Thereafter the relatives of the two women had wanted to take them to hospital but 

 the organizers had reportedly refused to release them but had instead taken the women to some secret place at the Park.

Subsequently with the intervention of the Police the victims had been taken to hospital but had been found dead by that time.

 The magistrate ordered the Police to hand over the bodies of the victims to their relatives following the post mortem examination and postponed the case till November 13 for further inquiries.

"சுகமளிக்கும் ஆராதனைகளை நடாத்துவதை ஜனாதிபதி தடுக்கவேண்டும்" என்று கோரி ஜாதிக ஹெல உறுமயவால் உழுங்குபடுத்தப்பட்டிருந்த சமாதான பாத யாத்திரை கடைசியில் வன்முறையில் முடிவுற்றது.

இதில் பேசிய எல்லாவல மேதானந்த தேரர் "அரசு இவ்வாறான நிறுவனங்களை பௌத்தத்துக்கு எதிரான அமைப்புகளாக கருதி தடைசெய்யவேண்டும் என கோரினார். இவ்வாறான ஒழுக்கமற்ற நிறுவனங்களுக்கு எதிராக நாம் மௌனமாக இருக்கமாட்டோம் எனவும் அவர் கூறினார்.

இந்நிறுவனத்தின் பாதுகாவலரால் ஏறத்தாள 34 ஆயிரம் ரூபா பெறுமதியான சேதம் ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ள்தாக பொலிஸில் முறைப்படு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது.

Protest against Viharamaha Devi deaths turns violent

A peace walk organized by the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) urging the President to intervene and ban religious centres that conduct healing sessions such as the one which held at the Viharamaha Devi Park, at which two women lost their lives, turned violent after a clash erupted between two parties at Koswatta, Thalangama yesterday.
The clash caused severe damage to the property which is believed to be a location at which several healing sessions were held previously.

Speaking to the protesters JHU leader Ellawala Medhananda Thera urged the President to ban such disputed religious entities which are bent on converting Buddhists to their faith. “The government should ban such organizations which are considered anti- Buddhist movements. We will not keep silent against such unethical organizations which are a serious threat to religious co-existence in the country,” the Thera said.

A spokesman for the JHU said in addition to the JHU several relations of the two victims too had joined the protest and violence erupted when stones were thrown at them from the centre. In the melee that ensured the Thalangama police were called in to shield centre staff from the violent protestors, Police media spokesman DIG Nimal Mediwake said. A guardian of the centre had lodged a complaint with the Thalangama police saying they had suffered Rs.34, 000 in damages during the violence that took place, said DIG Mediwake said.

The Thalangama police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
